Dear ABCDlady Readers,
ABCDlady had a great month! We traveled to New
York City to lead a Net-IP panel on topics we discuss in the magazine.
Then we learned that Manu Raju, one of our writers, won an award
from the South Asian Journalist Association for “Outstanding
Story on Any Subject” for his article explaining how immigration
laws protect domestic violence. And the number of new subscribers
continues to grow rapidly. We now have almost 14,000 unique visitors
per month in the United States, Canada, and around the world. We
are thrilled that the existence of the magazine continues to spread
by word of mouth. We couldn’t do it without our loyal readers,
so, thank you very much.
This month we highlight a very special lady that has made a name
for herself. We find Bhairavi Desai, director and cofounder of the
New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA), fascinating because she
is a woman leader in
such a male-dominated field. There are countless South Asian taxi
drivers—why did they come to the U.S.? Did they plan on driving
a taxi or did they have other dreams? We also profile one taxi driver
and tell his story.
