Letter from the Editor

Dear ABCDlady Readers,

It seems with one calamity after another, it’s easy to get desensitized to it all. Hurricane Katrina and Pakistan’s deadly earthquake seem to become old news as we turn the page to the local elections and the CIA leak scandal. In the midst of this all, we need to keep the victims of these catastrophes on our personal front page and continue checking on what we can do to help.

This month with ABCDlady,

- We get reintroduced to Apprentice’s Raj Bhakta and find out about his plans for running for office.

- We learn about Ayurveda, an alternative medicine for the mind, body and soul.

- A recent immigrant discusses her opinion on how Indian-Born & American-Born Desis differ.

- Our Desi Diva lets you in on how to get rid of dry skin despite the cold weather and she gives you the low down on Brazilian waxing.

- We discuss how not to let you feelings rule your life. How you feel is important, but it's not always the truth.

- Our Love and Sex expert provides guidance on seeing a doctor for sex-related issues while on your parents' insurance and fields a question on using the morning-after pill as birth control.

- With the upcoming holidays, we give you Party Planning 101, a course on planning a dinner party, whether it’s for the in-laws or for your 10 closest friends.

- Our parenting expert provides advice on teaching your child religious beliefs if your spouse is of a different faith.

I would also like to personally recommend Selective Search, a high-end match-making service that is free for women. Selective Search spends a significant amount of time and effort to only match you with someone they think would be perfect for you. A friend of mine tried one of the well-known dating sites out there. Her mom died at a young age so finding someone that takes care of their health is very important to her. She put that all over the profile she filled out, especially in the comments fields. Yet when she saw the photo of the person she had been corresponding with over email, he had a potbelly, clearly showing he was not working out, despite what he had placed in his profile. With Selective Search, you will be getting that personal touch—someone who will be reading what you write and talking to you to find out your likes and dislikes and doing the same for your potential matches. Plus, the president, Barbie Adler, is quite well known in the industry including being covered in Forbes, Fortune, Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, Oprah and CNN. Click here to learn more about them.

Sincerely,

Navdeep Kathuria
