Letter from the Editor

Dear ABCDlady Readers,

When something you love gets taken away from you, you have to find a way to deal with the occurrence and move on with your life. This month we focus on coming to grips with what life throws your way. First, our Health and Wellness expert tackles the scary “D” word. Getting through a divorce is not easy—we provide constructive advice for getting back on your feet.

After the 9-11 tragedy, Sikhs in America have faced harassment because their turbans and beards appear to resemble those of Osama bin Laden. (The Sikh religion prohibits men and women from cutting their hair—thus Sikh men wear turbans and keep beards.). In an extreme case of harassment, a Sikh gas station owner in Phoenix, Arizona was gunned down in front of his business. Inspired by this story, Kavi Raz wrote, produced, directed and starred in the film, The Gold Bracelet. Read about why he decided to pursue this fascinating project and how his hard work has garnered critical acclaim.

Our Love and Sex experts meet a husband dealing with his wife’s multiple miscarriages and a woman of South Asian and Mexican descent who is trying to figure out where she fits in.

Getting ready to take another step in your relationship? Be sure to read about Sexually Transmitted Diseases and find out what you need to know to protect yourself and your partner.

On a lighter note, we have a personal essay on South Asian culture in America and how far it’s come. Panicked about your wardrobe? Our Desi Diva presents you with a fall fashion guide. Our Cuisine expert provides some easy recipes that don’t require you to slave in the kitchen all day. And speaking of saving time, we offer some excellent time-saving techniques for the time-strapped parents out there. Finally, we give you an all-inclusive guide for purchasing, serving and drinking wine at the next event you throw!

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Navdeep Kathuria
