Letter from the Editor

Dear ABCDlady Readers,

The new year is the time to reflect on changes we want to make in our lives. In this issue, we offer some great ideas for new year’s resolutions:

- Try new foods. We present savory recipes for Indo-Chinese cuisine. Be sure to try our recipes for Vegetable Chow-Mein, Gobi Manchurian (Cauliflower in a Spicy Sauce) and Spicy Pepper Mushrooms.

- Seek help for your panic attacks. You shouldn’t let panic attacks dictate your life. Learn how a successful executive learned to cope with her problem.

- Find a balance between providing for your children and overindulging them. Overindulgent children grow up to be adults who expect others to do everything for them. Learn how to encourage your child to be independent.

- Stand your ground in your decision not to be sexually intimate. Our Love and Sex expert gives advice to a South Asian who doesn’t know how to tell her new boyfriend

that she isn’t ready to be intimate.

- Develop a new look. Want to become a head-turner? Our Desi Diva dishes out some fashion essentials that every woman should have!

This month, we also meet a South Asian who is keeping up with Indian traditions by taking part in Karwa Chauth, a Hindu tradition which entails fasting for your husband for a day. Learn about her thoughts on the tradition and discover why she looks forward to it every year.

We also meet Associate Justice Sabita Singh, the first Asian American appointed to the Massachusetts state bench. Learn about Singh’s journey to becoming an associate justice.

And to continue our wedding planning series, we bring you ten tips to a successful South Asian wedding.

Sincerely,

Navdeep Kathuria
