Letter from the Editor

Dear ABCDlady Readers,

With each passing decade, our society places more and more emphasis on health. While McDonald’s french fries used to be a treat, they are now a guilty pleasure. It wasn’t until the 1990s that smoking began being banned in workplaces, and now cities have begun banning smoking in bars. Additionally, regular exercise used to be embraced by the minority not the mainstream, and now gym memberships are in vogue. This month, we bring you several articles on health-related issues:

- First, we discuss confronting Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), a debilitating yet common mental illness that is exacerbated by lack of treatment. Read about one patient’s experience with OCD and how she went about treating it.

- Next, for Children’s Dental Health Month, we have an informative piece on caring for your child’s dental health.

- We also discuss breast cancer awareness for South Asian women. Learn about breast cancer screenings and what various organizations are doing to raise money for medical research.

In the mood for love? Our Love and Sex experts meet someone who can’t seem to meet the right guy and a girl worried about taking the next step with her boyfriend.

Additionally, in honor of Valentine’s Day, we provide a special gift-giving guide for those who are still on the hunt for a unique gift for their significant others.

If you are proposing or have gotten engaged this Valentine’s, check out our article on how to choose the right caterer, from our series on wedding planning.

Planning on making a romantic breakfast in bed for that special someone? Our resident cuisine expert gives you the basics for making South Asian breakfast.

This month we also meet, Ajay Mehta, an actor whose career boasts roles on television shows such as 24, The Sopranos, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Without a Trace. Finally, Meenakshi takes us on a ride on the Mumbai trains with her vivid recollections of public transportation in India.

Sincerely,

Navdeep Kathuria
