Letter from the Editor

Dear ABCDlady Readers,

Tell me the truth—do you read these letters, or do you go straight into the month’s issue? I try to check out other magazines whenever I can to scope out their letters from the editor. I keep tabs on how personal they get and I take note as to whether they tie their articles together.

This month, we thought we’d focus on the holidays—more specifically, on the extra days off most of us have. Here are some of our ideas for how you can spend December 26th:

- Listen to Vijay Iyer. To those in the jazz world, this definitely isn’t the first time you’ve heard about Iyer. Iyer could have become a scientist—Seed Magazine listed him as one of nine "Revolutionary Minds," and he was initially in the Physics PhD program at Berkeley. But he decided to focus his attention on jazz instead and is now touted as the number one Rising Star Jazz Artist and Composer by The Village Voice. Read about Vijay Iyer, this month’s Desi Making Waves.

- Open your heart to service. Sometimes, the one thing preventing us from giving to others is our refusal to take responsibility for anything other than ourselves! Our life coach discusses how to look beyond our individual needs to reach out to others.

- Donate to ABCDlady! If you didn’t catch our membership drive last month, we are leaving it open for one additional month. Please… If you enjoy our content and want to see us continue to provide it, we could use your help!

- Focus on what you want to be when you grow up. Are you really where you want to be? In our multi-article series on careers, a seasoned professional will provide you with advice that speaks to you, regardless of your level of experience.

- Go get a massage! Whether you want to indulge yourself or give someone else a massage gift certificate, check out our guide to massages first. This month, our Desi Diva gives you the ins and outs of massages that will hit the spot.

- Experience the life of a stay-at-home mom for a day. This month, we meet Brinda, who has loved and hated every minute since her decision to quit her job to raise her children.

- Read your child a book—a South Asian one! We explore South Asian books available for parents of younger children.

- Cook a Gujarati meal. Try this month’s specialty: Cabbage Sambharo (a lightly cooked dry curry) and Vagherelo Bhaat (Seasoned Rice).

- And, check out this month’s Love and Sex Prescription. Our Love and Sex expert meets a reader who has issues with her new boyfriend, who is perfect in every way except for one thing—he’s just not a looker.

Click here to enter and enjoy your days off, if you have ‘em!

Sincerely,

Navdeep Kathuria

P.S. I'd like to thank all the people who donated to our membership drive! If you haven't yet donated, click here to do so!
